Kevin & Friends - Video Game: Tri-Stars (also known as “K&F VG: Tri-Stars” or “K&F VG: TS”) is a video game compilation developed by the Ages Team and published by Papichi05 on GameJolt. The game features emulation of the first 2 games in the Kevin & Friends - Video Game series with new features, custom extensions, and optimizations implemented, with the local save file system being the most notable one.
Kevin & Friends - Video Game: Tri-Stars was built with the TurboWarp engine and was converted to an HTML build with the TurboWarp Packager. The HTML build was publicly released on GameJolt as an online game.
Plot
As Kevin, Mariela, and Sonic has their jobs completed 4 months after the events of Kevin & Friends - Video Game 2: Epilogue, Trixie and Marvin, yet, refuses to accept their defeat. Instead of progressing through the same scheme over and over again in the future, they traveled back in time to confront the 3 younger, past heroes, who were slightly immature in 2020, to threaten them once again. The 3 young selves notice a dark black hole emerging into the sky, and Trixie will directly attack the children while Marvin gathers materials in his secret asteroid cave in outer space.
The 3 heroes in the present, however, hears the loud emergency alarm inside the Amous Base and proceeds to take action by slowing down Trixie and Marvin's malicious process. The younger selves will do the rest by defeating them just like before.
Gameplay
Both games inside the build share the same controls as previously used on other Ages Team games, which is A to jump, arrow keys to move, and S to shoot, etc. In the original builds, the space bar was used to jump and Z to shoot powerballs.
Both games have the player to control either Kevin, Mariela, or Sonic. Kevin and Mariela can shoot powerballs while Sonic uses the traditional Sonic controls (jump into a ball or spindash). Each game share the same objectives; progressing through the maze levels to find the blue ring while avoiding red obsticals. In Kevin & Friends - Video Game 2 (K&F - VG 2), 2 extra rings were implemented; magenta rings heals your health point up by 2 and the red rings harms you like the other red obsticals. In K&F - VG 1, only one act is present for each zone and in the 2nd game, 2 acts were present for each level. Each level also have the player to fight a boss battle which can be defeated either by using powerballs or spin onto the enemy.
The compilation features upgrades to the GUI system, which features 60 FPS, removed fencing, performance optimizations. For example, the powerball lag was reduced by limiting the clones from replicating themselves each time the player uses S or Z to attack. The game also features a brand new save file system. Instead of copying and pasting codes, the game stores a save data onto the player’s local storage via cloud variables, and the game calls for the data if the player needs to continue the game.
